Up on the roof (while we still have one)

On The Now Show this weekend, Steve Punt mentioned—forgive my hazy memory in the absence of a recording—that “the explosions in that sketch were provided by the Israeli army, but for the sake of balance we should point out that Hizbollah recorded theirs first.”

So it’s with a kind of post-modern delight, cut free from all ties to my horror of war, that I find that Beirut citizen Mazen Kerbaj has collaborated (in the musical sense) with the Israeli air force to produce “Starry Night,” a trumpet improvisation with percussion provided by a bombing raid (courtesy of the Looby ).

For the sake of balance I must point out that the Israelis started noodling first. Also, Netanyahu played the saxophone solo on “Baker Street.”
